It can also be made by reacting furfural and acid chlorides in the presence of nitrogen gas to yield the desired product. Furancarboxaldehyde is an isomer of 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-furancarboxaldehyde, which differs from it only in that its conformation has been changed so that a proton on one of its carbons is replaced with a tetrahydropyrimidinone group.
