But-2-enedioic acid, also known as 2-[4-[3-[2-(trifluoromethyl)phenothiazin-10-yl]propyl]piperazin-1-yl]ethyl 2-(4-chlorophenoxy)-2-methylpropanoate, is a phenothiazine derivative and research drug. It has been shown to have long duration of action and excellent pharmacokinetics. But-2-enedioic acid has been shown to be a good candidate for the development of a long acting neuroleptic drug. The drug has been found to be active in both plasma samples and brain tissue in studies with rats. A pharmacokinetic study showed that it was well absorbed from the gut into the blood stream and had a high bioavailability (95%). The compound was found to be metabolized by glucuronidation, sulfation, or hydrolysis. The metabolic pathways were not affected by food intake or liver damage
