Butyl (2r)-2-[4-[5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-yl]oxyphenoxy] is an herbicide that belongs to the group of enzyme inhibitors. It is used for the control of hispidum, a perennial weed in California. Butyl (2r)-2-[4-[5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-yl]oxyphenoxy] has been shown to inhibit enzymes such as fatty acid synthase and lipoxygenase, leading to changes in cell membranes and inhibition of DNA synthesis. In addition, this chemical has genotoxic effects in model organisms and toxicological studies have shown that it causes dose-related increases in liver weight, liver enlargement, centrilobular hypertrophy, hepatocellular necrosis, and periportal fibrosis.
