1-Bromo-4-fluoro-2-iodobenzene is a fluorinated analog of phenanthrene. It is used for the synthesis of oligonucleotides and as a surrogate for nucleoside phosphoramidites. 1-Bromo-4-fluoro-2-iodobenzene can be used in the Suzuki reaction, Miyaura reaction, and the annulation reactions. The sequence of these reactions involves condensation, palladium catalyzed coupling, or oxidative addition of bromine to an alkenyl or alkynyl electrophile. 1-Bromo-4-fluoro-2-iodobenzene is also used in biomolecular studies such as the development of phenanthrenes with potential anticancer activity.
