The product is soluble in organic solvents, such as dichloromethane, chloroform, and diethyl ether. Monitoring of this reaction yields the acid residues. The ester also has hydrophilic properties due to its amino group and methylene side chain. This compound can be used as a catalyst for reactions involving chloride or hydrophobic amino groups. It is not active for reactions with hydrophilic amino acids or immobilized catalysts.
