4-Bromobenzenesulfonohydrazide is a sulfonohydrazide that has been used as an oxidant in organic synthesis. It reacts with metals such as copper, producing hydrogen peroxide and chloride ions. 4-Bromobenzenesulfonohydrazide is able to inhibit the activity of α-amylase enzymes through interaction with a zinc ion and molecular docking techniques. This inhibition can be reversed by the addition of base.
The mechanistic study revealed that 4-bromobenzenesulfonohydrazide is a stoichiometric, equated oxidant, which means it oxidizes both reactants at the same time. The mechanistic study also showed that 4-bromobenzenesulfonohydrazide does not inhibit other redox systems including halides or other techniques such as fluorescing agents and peroxidases.
