5-(4-tert-Butylphenyl)-4-ethyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (TAE) is a plant hormone that belongs to the class of thiocarbamates. TAE has been shown to have horticultural and physiological effects in plants such as increased seedling growth, higher fruit yield, increased fruit weight, and increased resistance to drought. It can also be used as a chemical control for pests. TAE is synthesized from capsicum annuum by hydrolysis of its precursor 5-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,2,4-triazole with hydroxide solution. This synthesis can be carried out at room temperature and does not require any special conditions since it is a stable complex with copper. TAE is an inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis that has been used in inflammatory diseases as well as in veterinary medicine for the treatment of respiratory
