This regulation is achieved through substrate inhibition at high concentrations and activation at low concentrations. Butyryl phosphate dilithium also has an effect on energy metabolism in E.coli, as demonstrated by structural analysis and the effects on growth rate and dry weight. The optimal pH for this molecule is 7.0, with a redox potential of -2.5 V vs. SHE at pH 7.0, while it has no activity at pH values less than 5 or greater than 9.
