5-Bromopyrimidine-2-carboxylic acid (5BCA) is a pyrimidine derivative that can be used to treat bacterial infections. It is an inhibitor of phospholipid synthesis, which means it prevents the production of phosphatidylcholine. This compound has been shown to have antibacterial activity in vivo and in vitro by inhibiting bacterial growth. 5BCA is also a ligand for lanthanide ions and inhibits photophysical properties of lanthanides. 5BCA may also be modified with acid moieties to increase its stability in vivo or with chromophores to make it more visible under UV light.
