2-Bromo-6-hydrazinopyridine hydrochloride is a salicylidene derivative that has anti-cancer properties. It is synthesized from the reaction of formaldehyde with salicylaldehyde, followed by hydrolysis of the resulting formamide with hydrazine. The product is an inorganic salt and a ligand for copper ions. 2-Bromo-6-hydrazinopyridine hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro and in vivo, as well as to induce apoptosis in cancer cells. This drug also inhibits the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and protein. The analytical diffraction data on this drug show it forms a hexahydrate crystal structure at room temperature.
