5-(Bromomethyl)-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole is a pharmacological agent that belongs to the group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is structurally related to sodium diclofenac and has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory activity in assays. The drug also has moderate ulcerogenic activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase. 5-(Bromomethyl)-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in rat stomach tissue and has been shown to be effective against inflammation induced by carrageenan or arachidonic acid. This drug also possesses antioxidant properties and can protect cells from oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species.
