It can be used as a substitute for 2-aminothiazole, which belongs to the group of halogenated compounds. 5-tert-Butyl-1,3-thiazol-2-amine has been shown to react with alkyl halides to form alkylated products. The reaction with alkyl halides may be due to its primary amino group and amino group. 5-tert-Butyl-1,3-thiazol-2-amine also reacts with sulfuric acid and sulfuric acid salts to form thiazoles and thiazolones.
