(2-Bromobenzyl)dimethylamine is a chiral catalyst that has been used in the asymmetric synthesis of ferrocene. It is synthesized by reacting 2-bromobenzaldehyde with dimethylamine, followed by catalytic reduction with hydrogen gas. The compound has pharmacological properties such as being an inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase and it can be used as a topical anti-itch agent. (2-Bromobenzyl)dimethylamine also has optically active properties, and it can be used to measure optical rotation in cyclic compounds.
