It is synthesized from the reaction of bromoform and benzoyl chloride in deionized water with the addition of a base. 4-Bromobenzocyclobutene can be used as a polymer film for semiconductors, as it has high thermal stability and chemical stability. 4-Bromobenzocyclobutene can also be used for the production of dimethyl fumarate, which is an antifungal agent that restricts cellular respiration by binding to mitochondria.
