3-Bromoindole is an enolate that has been found to have inhibitory properties. This compound can be synthesized using a kinetic method, which involves the reaction of sodium hydroxide solution with 3-bromobenzaldehyde and 2-chloropropionic acid in the presence of a chloride. The reactants are heated to 50 °C for 2 hours. The product is then purified by recrystallization from a hydroxide solution or by chromatography on silica gel. 3-Bromoindole has shown efficient inhibition of prostate carcinoma cells in vitro, but its mechanism of action is not yet known.
