The reaction sequence for this process starts with the methylation of morpholine to form methylmorpholine, followed by the reaction of methylmorpholine with acetic anhydride to form 4-benzylmorpholine-2-carboxylic acid. This compound has been shown to have antiproliferative activity in murine lymphoma and human lung carcinoma cells by inhibiting their cycle at G1 phase.
