4-(tert-Butoxy)-4-oxobutanoic acid is a monomer that can be used in the synthesis of polymers. It has been shown to have anticancer activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit histone lysine methylation and its ability to conjugate with amines. 4-(tert-Butoxy)-4-oxobutanoic acid has two functional groups, which makes it bifunctional and allows it to polymerize into poly(esteramide). The hydrophobic effect of this compound may be used to produce a self-assembling material that can be used for drug delivery.
