Descripción:
5-Bromopentan-2-one is an ethylene acetal that is used for the preparation of ethylene by alkylation with hydrochloric acid. It has been used as a synthetic precursor to the insect pheromones surinamensis and xylene. 5-Bromopentan-2-one has also been used in the synthesis of phosphite, a chemical intermediate in the production of organometallic compounds. This compound can be prepared by chemoenzymatic or organometallic processes. The neuroleptic properties of this compound are due to its ability to inhibit dopamine uptake into nerve terminals.
