The 1,1'-bipyrrole-2,2',5,5'-tetraone is an organic compound that is a reactive electrophile. It reacts with nucleophiles such as hydrazine and d-glucosamine to form the corresponding 2-azido-4-hydroxy-, 5-phosphono-, and 6-amino analogues. The nature of this reaction may be due to the electron withdrawing effect of the substituents on the aromatic ring. This compound has been detected in sugar solutions at concentrations of about 10 parts per million.
