Bis(2-bromoethyl)amine hydrobromide is a synthetic compound that has inotropic and vasodilatory effects. It binds to the anionic sites on the surface of bacteria, which causes a change in bacterial conformation and affinity for metal ion. This inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting protein synthesis. Bis(2-bromoethyl)amine hydrobromide also has antifungal activity against Aspergillus flavus, which is due to its ability to bind to the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane and inhibit protein synthesis.
