It is more efficient than the related coupling agents 4-bromo-2-chloroquinoline and 4-chloro-2-methylquinoline. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions, with catalysts such as metal salts or base. 4-Bromo-2-methylquinoline can be used in reactions involving anhydrous solvents, but it is also soluble in water and organic solvents such as dichloromethane.
