4-Bromo-7-methoxy-1H-indole is a benzene derivative that is used as a marine chemical. It is also an alkaloid with antihelminthic, cytotoxic, and antimalarial properties. The coupling of 4-bromo-7-methoxy-1H-indole with succinic anhydride can be carried out in the presence of chloride ion to form 4-(chloromethyl)-3,5-dimethoxybenzoic acid. This reaction proceeds via the Miyaura cross coupling reaction. The Suzuki reaction can then be used to form the final product by reacting 4-(chloromethyl)-3,5-dimethoxybenzoic acid with boronic acid and imidazolylboronic acid under acidic conditions.br>br>
