Trans-4-tert-Butylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid is a cycloaliphatic carboxylic acid that can be found in wastewater. It has been shown to be an effective analytical tool for determining the concentrations of naphthenic compounds in wastewater. Trans-4-tert-Butylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid is synthesized from 2-phenylbutyric acid and carbon dioxide, which are mixed at a specific temperature and pressure. The reaction is monitored by titration with sodium hydroxide solution until the pH reaches 7. Trans-4-tert-Butylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid is also used as a chemical substrate in the synthesis of other chemicals such as monocarboxylic acids, reducing sugars, and amino acids.
