Benzimidazole-5,6-dicarboxylicacid is a compound that contains a benzimidazole ring and a carboxylic acid. It has been shown to exhibit luminescent properties when it is exposed to light. This compound can be synthesized in two ways: by reacting 5,6-dichlorobenzimidazole with ethylene carbonate, or by reacting 2-amino-5,6-dichlorobenzimidazole with chloroacetic acid.
