This binding prevents phosphorylation of Aurora-A, which blocks the kinase's ability to interact with other proteins. 3-(Bromomethyl)-5-methylisoxazole also has a benzyl group that interacts with residues in the kinase domain, and it was crystallographically determined to be a potent inhibitor of Aurora-A.
