7-Bromo-3-hydroxy-naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid (7BHN) is a brominated naphthalene derivative that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of phosphatase activity. The compound can also inhibit the formation of nerve growth factor and prevent the induction of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis in animals. 7BHN has been used as an additive in pharmaceuticals, such as tablets, capsules and ointments. It has also been used to treat intestinal infections caused by microorganisms such as Streptococcus faecalis or Clostridium difficile.
