2,3,3',4'-Biphenyl tetracarboxylicdianhydride is an organic compound that is used as a precursor to other organic compounds. It is synthesized by the reaction of phenylmagnesium bromide and 4-biphenylcarboxaldehyde in an organic solvent at elevated temperatures. 2,3,3',4'-Biphenyl tetracarboxylicdianhydride has a viscosity of 1.5 cP at 20°C and a heat resistance of 180°C. The thermal expansion coefficient is 5.6 x 10-6/°C below its melt point and 8.2 x 10-6/°C above its melt point. This polymer is resistant to cross-coupling reactions, which makes it suitable for coatings applications. It also has low reactivity with oxygen and humidity and can be used as a matrix polymer for x-ray data collection or analysis.
