Biguanide hydrochloride is an analytical reagent that is used for the determination of biguanide in a reaction solution. It is prepared by reacting sodium citrate with an appropriate amount of biguanide. Biguanide hydrochloride has been shown to be a disinfectant and an effective agent against infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and leprosy. The fetal bovine serum (FBS) was found to have a physiological effect on the enzyme activity of biguanides, which can be inhibited by benzalkonium chloride.
