4-Bromo-2,5-dimethoxytoluene is a brominated aromatic compound. It is used in the preparation of amphetamines and azides. This product can be synthesized by two methods: an oxidation reaction with hydrogen peroxide and hydrochloric acid or a stereospecific synthesis from 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde. The color of 4-bromo-2,5-dimethoxytoluene ranges from colorless to pale yellow. The compound has been shown to have regioselective reactions with tosylates and lithium reagents as well as stereospecific reactions with azide ion.
