- 3-(3-Benzothienyl)-DL-alanine
Benzo[b]thiophene-3-alanine is a synthetic, randomization of the amino acid residue formyl group. It has been found to inhibit the translation of HIV-1 protein gp120 by binding to the translational initiation factor eIF2. Benzo[b]thiophene-3-alanine is a peptidomimetic that discriminates against the non-peptide analogs, such as Phe and Tyr. This drug also has an affinity for hydrogen bonds and can be used to synthesize peptidomimetics with five-membered rings.
