4-Bromo-2-nitrophenol is a potent anticancer agent that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit HIF-1α, which is a transcription factor that regulates the expression of genes involved in the process of angiogenesis and tumorigenesis. 4-Bromo-2-nitrophenol binds to metal ions such as copper and zinc, which are important for normal cellular function. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins required for cell division, including hif-1α. 4-Bromo-2-nitrophenol also prevents angiogenesis by inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production.
