Benzenecarbothioamide is a reactive anhydrous sodium salt, which has been shown to have a number of biological studies. The salt is a coordination geometry that reacts with the nucleophilic sites on the enzyme in order to form a stable intermediate. The reaction then results in the transfer of the carboxyl group from benzenecarbothioamide to the enzyme, which leads to liver lesions. Benzenecarbothioamide also inhibits rat liver microsomes and has been shown to be active against congestive heart failure. This compound is not found naturally and can only be synthesized by chemical reactions involving thiobenzamide and amide compounds.
