It has been shown to inhibit the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which may be due to its ability to inhibit gastric acid secretion. 5-Bromoquinoline also has mechanistic properties, which are currently unknown. The reaction solution for this chemical is a complex molecule with an organic amine and bromide ion as ligands, which is reductively eliminated in the presence of glyoxal to form a tribromide. This chemical has not been shown to have any effects on biomolecular processes such as DNA synthesis or transcription or translation.
