Descripción:1-Bromo-3,5,7-trimethyladamantane is a hydroxy adamantane. It is the simplest member of the class of compounds known as adamantanes. Adamantanes are electrophilic and react with nucleophiles to form adducts. 1-Bromo-3,5,7-trimethyladamantane has a bridgehead methyl group that reacts with nucleophiles such as hydroxide ion, forming an ether adduct of the type (CH)O-(CH)Br (1). The carboxylic acid group can be deprotonated by strong bases to form the corresponding anion (CH)O-(CH)COH (2), which reacts with nucleophiles such as amines to give salts of the type (CH)N+(CH)COH (3).
