4,4'-Biphenyldiylbis(triethoxysilane) is a mesoporous silica nanoparticle that has been synthesized by the hydrolysis of trimethylsilyl-biphenyl-diol. It is fluorescent and can be used to detect dopamine in deionized water at a concentration of 10−5 mol/L. A reaction time of 5 minutes is required for 4,4'-biphenyl-diylbis(triethoxysilane) to react with dopamine. The efficiency of this process is around 94%.
