4-Bromopyrimidine is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be effective in lowering blood glucose levels and increasing insulin sensitivity in diabetic patients. 4-Bromopyrimidine is converted from the enolate of pyridoxal phosphate by an amide bond, which is then reduced to the amine form by an acyl chloride. In vivo assays have shown that this process results in increased chloride ion uptake, leading to hyperglycemia and glucose-lowering effects. The vitamin b1 cofactor plays a key role in this reaction.
