1-Bromotetradecane is a pyridinium salt that can be used as a cross-linking agent. It has been shown to form stable complexes with polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene. 1-Bromotetradecane can also react with ether linkages, such as those found in polyurethanes, to form ether cross-links. 1-Bromotetradecane is stable at room temperature and is soluble in organic solvents. This compound has been shown to inhibit the potential of chloride ions in an aqueous solution. In this way, it can be used as an inhibitor of hydrochloric acid. 1-Bromotetradecane is nonfluorescent and does not absorb infrared radiation. It has been shown to have chemical structures that are similar to dimethyl hexanedioate (DMD) but with chlorine substitutions instead of oxygen substitutions on the aromatic rings
