(Z)-1-Bromo-3-hexene is a brominated derivative of hexene. It is synthesised by the addition of bromine to a methylated furan, followed by nitration and treatment with silver nitrate. (Z)-1-Bromo-3-hexene has been shown to be a natural product that can be found in plants and animals. This compound has also been synthesised from fatty acids and cyclized with heterocycles to form novel compounds. The synthesis of this compound involves the use of silver nitrate as an oxidising agent, which leads to its distinctive silver colour.
