7-Bromoheptanoic acid is a fatty acid that is synthesized by the action of an enzyme called bromoperoxidase. The synthesis of 7-bromoheptanoic acid is an important step in the biosynthesis of bromoderivatives, which are used as drugs. The hydroxy group in this molecule and its conjugates have been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth and induce apoptosis. They also inhibit the phase transition temperature of fatty acids and the formation of fatty acid micelles, which may be due to the presence of a chloride ion in their structure. This compound has been shown to have physiological functions such as regulating blood pressure and maintaining normal levels of electrolytes, although it has low bioavailability.
