Tert-Butylbenzene is an organic compound that is produced by the acylation of benzene with trifluoroacetic acid. It can be used as a solvent in the production of plastics, rubbers, and synthetic fibers. Tert-Butylbenzene has been shown to react with water vapor and methyl ethyl ether to produce tert-butanol and methanol. The kinetic data for this reaction has been obtained from both experimental measurements and calculations using kinetic theory. The activation energies for the reactions were determined from thermodynamic data and sample preparation methods, such as FTIR spectroscopy. Transfer reactions are also possible when tert-butylbenzene reacts with supercritical CO2 or thermal energy.
