2-Butyloctanoic acid is a monomer used in the preparation of detergent compositions. It is also an active substance that is used as an additive to provide viscosity, foam stability, and mildness to detergent compositions. 2-Butyloctanoic acid has a molecular weight of 114.2 and a boiling point of 176°C. This product has been shown to have a particle size distribution with an average particle diameter of 1.8 microns when measured by electron microscopy or laser diffraction methods. 2-Butyloctanoic acid can be synthesized from fatty acids and glycol ethers using electrochemical methods or from carnitine using acid catalysts.
