Descripción

1-(1-Benzofuran-2-yl)-2-bromoethan-1-one is a pyridinium salt that has been shown to have anticancer activity. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the bacterial cell wall and interfering with the synthesis of proteins, DNA, and RNA. 1-(1-Benzofuran-2-yl)-2-bromoethan-1-one has been shown to be activated by s. aureus and other bacterial species, although it is not active against fungi. This compound also has antibacterial properties and has been shown to inhibit the growth of various bacteria including S. aureus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae, C. albicans, M. smegmatis, and M. tuberculosis at concentrations between 0.3% and 1%.
