Descripción:Budipine hydrochloride is a potent, selective and long-acting inhibitor of the enzyme catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) that is used as a treatment for Parkinson's disease. It has been shown to inhibit dopamine breakdown by COMT. This inhibition leads to increased concentrations of dopamine in the brain, which are thought to have neurotrophic effects. Budipine hydrochloride also has antioxidative properties, which may help protect neurons from oxidative stress. The drug has been shown to cause neuronal death in animals, but not humans. Further research is needed on the effects of budipine hydrochloride on other neurotransmitters and receptors in the central nervous system.
