Tert-Butyl(4-iodobutoxy)dimethylsilane is an organic compound that is used as a monomer in the production of high molecular weight polymers. Tert-Butyl(4-iodobutoxy)dimethylsilane has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of viral replication, including paramyxoviridae and pneumoviruses. The mechanism of action involves the formation of hydrogen bonds with key amino acids in the virus polymerase active site. This inhibits the polymerization reaction, leading to inhibition of viral replication. The drug also causes permeabilization of cell membranes, which may be involved in its antiviral effect.
