tert-Butyl 1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-ylcarbamate is an organic compound that belongs to the class of tertiary amines. It is sparingly soluble in water and insoluble in most organic solvents. The compound is prepared by reacting benzyl chloroformate with phthalic anhydride followed by reaction with acetone or acetonitrile. This reagent can be used for the preparation of carbazates from alcohols and hydrazines. The tertiary amine group can be replaced by other functional groups such as alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, and others.
