1,2-Bis(dichloromethylsilyl)ethane is a lamellar cyclic compound with an average molecular weight of 240. The molecule has been immobilized on silica gel using amines as the coupling agent and this material has been used for palladium-catalyzed reactions in organic synthesis. The reaction products are chloride and organolithium compounds. This technique has been applied to synthesize a number of low molecular weight silicon-containing architectures.
