N-Benzoyl isothiocyanate (NBITC) is a benzoyl derivative that exhibits antimicrobial activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the ethylene diamine receptor and blocking the enzymatic conversion of this compound into ammonia. NBITC also inhibits microorganisms by interfering with their metabolism, which may be due to steric interactions with nitrogen atoms in the enzyme and group p2 of the bacterial cell wall. NBITC has been found to be an effective inhibitor of diazonium salt formation. This chemical can also act as a potential biomarker for environmental contamination, because it binds to surface methodology and methyl ethyl groups on surfaces.
