4-Benzylmorpholine-5-one-3-carboxylic acid (BOMC) is a suppressant that is used to treat the symptoms of depression. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, S and R, which are not interchangeable. BOMC has been shown to be more potent than the other drugs in its class, and it has a long duration of action. The drug was found to be more effective as an antidepressant when administered in the form of hydrochloride or hydride salts. Chemoselective reactions with metal hydrides were also investigated for possible industrial applications.
