1-(Bromomethyl)pyrene (1-BP) is a quaternary ammonium salt that is formed by the covalent attachment of bromine to the pyrene molecule. 1-BP is a fluorophore, which means it emits light when excited with an energy source, such as ultraviolet (UV) or visible light. In addition, 1-BP has excellent chemical stability and can be used as a single-stranded DNA probe in nanotubes. The nitrogen atoms on the pyrene ring provide 1-BP with strong hydrogen bonding properties, making it an efficient method for labeling proteins and other molecules.
