2-Bromophenol acetate is a bifunctional reagent that can bind to DNA and form a covalent bond with it. This compound is used in analytical chemistry as an activator for low molecular weight molecules. 2-Bromophenol acetate has been shown to bind to the dna binding protein, which stimulates transcription and replication of DNA. It also has been shown to interact with the activation function of certain cells and increase transcription rates at low temperatures.
2-Bromophenol acetate binds to DNA by forming a covalent bond between the 2-bromo phenol group and the nucleobase adenine. The bromide ion then attacks one of the hydroxyl groups on the side chain of thymine, leading to displacement of hydrogen from both oxygens in this molecule, creating a double bond between them. The amide linkage forms when the bromide ion attacks one of these oxygens again
